Then there's the sizzling hot temperatures, sweaty kids red beat faces and nothing is worse then an overheated /overtired toddler or kid having a meltdown.
There, I can see myself, standing in the park or on the avenue turning into a puddle as my child is having a meltdown.
I'd rather not deal with that. I'd rather be that mom who is on top of her game.
Hydrate, Hydrate Hydrate. Remember to drink enough, remember to give your kids to drink. And I'm talking about WATER! Aqua, Mayim H20
Even before I was a mom, I was a camp counselor. One of the trainings we did before camp was a safety course and I'll never forget this simple yet wise tip.
Never ask a child if he/she is thirsty. Just fill up a cup of water and hand it to them. They will take that cup and drink it to the bottom, they may even ask you for more when they realize how thirsty they were. Chances are if you would ask that same child, "Would you like some water?" they wouldn't even respond yes. Children might complain, saying they're hungry, tired, have a headache ... without even realizing they are dehydrated.
Tips: (Tried and True)
1. Have your kids drink 1 cup of water before heading out to the store/ park /daycamp.
If there is more than 1 child give them each a straw and make it into a race.
2. Buy a small canteen or bottle that is decorated or unique that your child will know is his/hers. Get into the habit of packing it wherever you go.
3. If your waiting for your kids to come back from daycamp, or a playdate, or soccer practice wait outside for them holding a cold cup of water. Hand it to them right away and then catch up on their day.
